What Every Parents Should Know

When you see a dysfunctional adult, you can trace it back to dysfunctional parenting. My mentor always says, “IT IS BETTER TO TRAIN A CHILD THAN TO REPAIR AN ADULT”. All advancement in society begins with the development of the character of the young.

Do you know that whatever happens to you as a child shapes your character and personality and basically governs your whole life.

The bible says, “Train up a child in the way he should go. Not the way he wants to go, neither the way you want him to go but the way he should go. If he deviates, chances are he was never trained right because the bible says, if he is trained, he wouldn’t depart from it.

One of the reasons for the broken focus, failure and gangsterism among our young people is traceable to poor parenting and irresponsibility’s of our parents. It is often said that if a car gets an accident, you don’t blame the passengers, you blame the driver. We have so many daddies but few fathers. Giving birth doesn’t make you a father. Having beards doesn’t make you a father either because even some goats have beards. To be a father is been a role model and a path-finder. It is your ability to take responsibility. `

What we see today is parents waiting for their children to bail them out. It is not biblical for parents to depend on their children. (Proverbs 13:22).

Children should honour their parents not parents been a burden to their children. The major role of parents should be to teach their children how to be wealthy, cultured and happy. Parents shouldn’t say, “I have worked hard all my life, now I need help”. They should be able to say, “I have worked all my life, now I can help”.

There is something more than lands and houses, you have to give them that something more. You can’t take a land from here to America but any knowledge, values and principles you have, follows you wherever you go.

The reason why the wealth of most rich men disappear after their death is because they only passed their riches to their children but never passed their knowledge. In the words of DR Stephen Akintayo, “If your hunger for knowledge isn’t more than your hunger for money, you wouldn’t go far in life”

And don’t forget this, “your money doesn’t determine your wealth; it is your wealth that determines your money”. In the book titled, “THE BUSINESS OF THE 21^ST CENTURY”, Robert Kiyosaki said that It is not real estate, gold, stocks, money that makes you rich; it is what you know about real estate, gold, stock and money that makes you rich. Ultimately, it is your financial intelligence that makes you rich. Statistics show that, lottery winners who win in excess of 3million dollars each, 80% are bankrupt within 3years. Why? Because money alone doesn’t make you rich, you require knowledge!

Remember, it is not what you leave FOR your children that really matters but what you leave IN them because If you don’t labour to give them a good legacy and it is only money you gave them, the money will be their destruction!
